Do I need a distribution block?

I have an '08 Kia Spectra5. Right now I have a 4-channel Alpine amp powering 4 speakers and my two 10" Rockford Fosgate subs. The amp is getting way too hot, which I thought might happen, so I bought a mono amp (Alpine MRP-M500) that I want to install to power the sub. My question is, do I need a distribution block or can I just run 2 power cords? I have seen cars with both and I don't know what the difference would be. I am not installing it myself but I need to know what I will have to buy. Thanks for any help, it is very much appreciated.
