Whats wrong with my amp?

I just put an alpine type x powered by a mrp m1000 into my car. But the amp would just quit working after 30 minutes or so. and now it looks like its not working at all. Is the amp too powerful for the car? do i need another battery to run it? or is there something that im just overlooking. i don't know much about car audio, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
