How many uses in a Windows 7 serial key?

one licence for each laptop .. unless you buy a VLK (volume Licensing Key) .. but these are only supposed to be used by companies who have multiple computers on site, I'm pretty sure its illegal to use VLK for computers you intend to sell on.
