Maternity leave question - EI?

I am currently on maternity leave and due back in October. However, I am currently studying to become a mortgage broker and will not be returning to my previous job. If mortgage brokers are 100% commission and I wouldn't get my first paycheck until a mortgage closed, can I stay on EI until it expires in Oct even though I am technically employed with a firm but without a paycheck? Or do I give up the right of EI once I am hired?
